BASIC TOURIST INFORMATION

Ivano-Frankivsk region is famous for its cultural and historic heritage. The area holds 3,500 national historic monuments and landmarks. Among those old and valuable monuments are the 12th century St. Panleimon's Church near Halych Town, the Church of the Holy Spirit with its unique 17th century iconostasis in Rohatyn Town, the 17th century Maniava monastery and wooden Hutsul and Boyko churches, which are well-known far outside Ukraine.



Tourists can gain immense satisfaction learning from artifacts in the museums of Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia. They also would enjoy walking along the paths of Oleksa Dovbush. the leader of the Opryshky. In addition to this, they can study the route of the Ukrainian Partisan Army (Ø'À), which fought against invaders during the Second World War.

The oblast has five towns which were mentioned in Old Rus' chronicles: Tysmennytsia in 1158, Sniatyn in 1158, Tlumach in 1213, Kolomyia in 1240 and the oldest town of Halych, which dates back to 898. From a small settlement Halych turned into the capital of the principality, and soon after the capital of Halychyna and the Volyn state.
 


Due to its unique values, Halych historic site was established as a national historic reserve, tailed "Old Halych".
The region is popular for its outstanding tourist and recreation facilities. More than 100 hotels, tourist centres and sanatorium» can accommodate 14,000 people.
